Magazine Columns - Backbone of Every Good Layout

After reading this article, I really see why a good grid is the backbone of any layout. The 12-column modular grid is good because it gives structure but also flexibility and you can split pages in all kinds of ways and still keep things clean. I thought it was cool how it started out totally by hand and then moved to digital. It really just shows how many grids go unnoticed in the everyday life. Just seeing the newspapers, I would have never imagined that much though went into structuring something like that.
